Santa's grotto, Love Actually on TV again, Mistletoe, the St Ivo Speed Squash Turkey tournament. Only one of these Christmas traditions leaves you with no regrets.
Eight brave competitors assembled at the Inn(OL Huntingdon) to await the arrival of the next Turkey tournament champion. 24 matches against the clock. 5 minute games. The competition was facilitated by wise men carrying a watch, some gifts and a handicap algorithm so powerful that even trying to understand it was pointless. It would be a biblically epic night.
The format was a simple round robin, squash singles games against the clock with a points handicap, everyone to play each other, could a Christmas miracle occur and we finish before the inn was closed.
In incredible scenes, 10 of the 24 matches were decided by two points or less with 4 draws. Highlights inlcuded a 26-25 win for Adam over Harry after his brave diving return turned out to be an ingenious time wasting ploy for victory. Shaun edged out Filip 16-15 in a classic, and Shaun was on the receiving end of some inspired squash from Sam. Elsewhere, Rob and George showed great skills to beat John convincingly.
As the night drew to an end, a booming cry from the sky of 'TIME' brought the competition to a close. There could be only one champion. The crowds gathered under the bright lights of the Inn while the scores were added up, desperate to get a view of their King. With four wins from 7 matches Sam was crowned the winner. Awesome squash.
Thanks to all the players and special thanks Alistair and Mike for giving up their time to help organise.
The return of the epic squash saga - a fun annual competition pairing improving players with experienced team players on a tenuous Batman and Robin theme
Starring Matt as Delboy batman and Constantin as Rodney Robin.
This pair were the only choices to play Delboy and Rodney due to their respective relative heights. Delboy batman's highlight was a strong victory over Adam West batman 17-9 and Rodney Robin had a great battle with Burt Ward Robin losing out 17-9.
4th place overall but still a strong performance for the only part-time superheroes in the competition.
Starring Dan Jnr as Adam West Batman and Malcolm as Burt Ward Robin.
Dan was a natural to star as Adam West Batman. His shots are actually accompanied by 'BOOM' and 'KERPOW' graphics.
Adam West Batman's finest hour was a comprehensive victory over Dark Knight Rises Batman 17-12. Burt Ward Robin had a very good battle with John Blake Robin, losing 17-13 and also recorded a good win over Rodney Robin.
2nd place overall - WHAMM
Starring John as Dark Knight Rises Batman - a broken ageing batman weakened by a losing battle with Bane, and also starring Adam as John Blake Robin.
A strong win over Delboy batman was the highlight for Dark knight Rises batman before a ruthless Adam West Batman's KERPOW shots destroyed the ageing batman.
His trusty sidekick John Blake Robin won against his fellow Robins, including a standout game with Burt Ward Robin, but he wasn't able to save Dark Knight Rises Batman from his fate.
3rd place overall
Starring Kieran as Michael Keaton Batman. A lone batman with no need of a crime fighting partner. Supporting cast member as Vicky Vale.
Michael Keaton Batman, being prime Batman, had no need of a Robin. Strong performances against the other Batmen and ruthless dispatching of the Robins from other teams saw the original movie batman as the standout winner.
1st Place overall - Well done Kieran!
Thanks everyone for taking part.
